A 60-day voyage through the Australian Coast is being halted following the tragic passing of an elderly lady who was stranded by the ship on a distant coastal location.

The passenger had been hiking on Lizard Island with other travelers from the cruise ship, but separated from the party for a rest. The vessel left without her and went back after some time after the personnel became aware the passenger was unaccounted for.

An extensive rescue mission found her person the following day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the tragedy, alongside law enforcement and the medical examiner.

The CEO of the voyage organizer announced that passengers and staff on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the continuation of the cruise had been cancelled due to the "unfortunate death and prior mechanical issues".

In a statement, he further stated that passengers would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the company was working "to coordinate the homeward trips of the travelers via chartered flights".

Authorities also published an updated communication, and said they had "provided a order to the Master" banning any new passengers from boarding the ship.

The official said that they would visit the vessel in the port city upon its arrival.

The ship initially left Cairns on October 24th, and was only 48 hours into the expedition at the moment of the senior passenger's death. The remote island was the opening port on the journey.
